EXCURSIONS CIÉF – Juin 2026 (avec nos excuses pour les informations en anglais)

Wednesday, June 24 (afternoon): Getaway to San Lorenzo de El Escorial

Built at the end of the 16th century, the Monastery of El Escorial, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, rises in a setting of exceptional beauty at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama, north of Madrid. A retreat of a mystical king, Philip II, El Escorial became, during the final years of his reign, the center of the greatest political power of the time. Philip II founded the monastery in 1563 as a votive monument and as the pantheon of Spanish monarchs since Charles V, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.

The Royal Site includes the monastery—an immense stone complex surrounded by formal French-style gardens and monks’ gardens—the Houses of Trades, and the Company Quarters, which housed the services of the palace and the monastery. In the 18th century, new Houses of Trades were built to complete the Lonja (the public stone building). Over time, a small town developed around the monastery, a true model of the Age of Enlightenment, which hosted the court and the two country residences of the sons of Charles III.

Departure: 3:00 p.m.
Return: 8:00 p.m.

Price: €70 per person

Saturday, June 27: Day Trip to Toledo

Successively a Roman municipality, capital of the Visigothic kingdom, stronghold of the Emirate of Córdoba, outpost of the Christian kingdoms in their struggle against the Moors, and in the 16th century the temporary seat of supreme power under Charles V, Toledo is the guardian of more than two millennia of history. Its masterpieces come from diverse civilizations in an environment where the coexistence of three major religions—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam—was a defining element.

Guided tour of the historic center, the Jewish Quarter, the Convent District, and must-see landmarks such as the Santa Cruz Museum, the Alcázar of Toledo, Toledo Cathedral, the Synagogue of El Tránsito and the Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca, the Mosque of Cristo de la Luz, the Puerta del Sol, and the Church of Santiago del Arrabal, among others.

Departure: 9:00 a.m.
Return: around 7:00 p.m.

Price: €75

Sunday, June 28: Day Trip to Segovia

The Roman aqueduct of Segovia, probably built around the year 50 AD, is remarkably well preserved. This majestic double-arched structure stands within the magnificent historic city of Segovia, where one can also admire the Alcázar, begun in the 11th century, and the 16th-century Gothic cathedral.

Departure: 9:00 a.m.
Return: around 7:00 p.m.

Guided tour of the city center: the aqueduct, the Jewish Quarter, Plaza Mayor, Segovia Cathedral, the house-museum of the writer Antonio Machado, the Romanesque churches of San Martín and Vera Cruz, followed by the Alcázar and the city walls.
